Melissa Smedley produces works of performance,
sculpture, and installation. Her work inquires about the tools
we employ to mediate our relationship to “nature”.
Having lived in Southern California since 1989, Smedley’s work has been
exhibited at the San Diego Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Mesa
College Gallery, California Center for The arts, Escondido, and the Insite festivals
of the 1990’s. Internationally, her work has been exhibited in Japan and
Sweden.
In 2001, Smedley directed a team of artists to create a seris of seven sculptures
for Denver’s new Invesco Field football stadium.
Currently the artist is working on a series of commissioned garden sculptures
in bronze, marble, lava rock, and bamboo.
